Christ has given to each believer a work to do to build up the church and come to the unity of the faith. OIC offers you the opportunity to use your God-given talents for His service. Below you will find methods on how to discover your spiritual gift in some helpful material adapted from Russell Burrill's Revolution in the Church: Unleashing the Awesome Power of Lay Ministry.
How to Discover My Gift
1. Pray - Engage in intense, meaningful, honest prayer to God, asking Him to reveal your gift as you cooperate with Him by searching for it.
2. Explore the possibilities - (The gifts listed in the texts below provide a good starting point. However, there may be other gifts not listed here. Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12: 8-10; 1 Corinthians 12: 28, 1 Corinthians 13:3, Ephesians 4:11 & 1 Peter 4:8.
3. Experiment with those gifts - Part of being gifted is the ability to do something better and more easily than something else. But you may never know you are gifted until you actually try it.
4. Examine your feelings - Feelings are not always the best criteria, but they should certainly be considered when observing your giftedness. Do you have a sense of satisfaction, or is a total distaste? Please note, nervousness and uneasiness in the beginning should not be confused with dissatisfaction.
5. The feedback- Are people responding favorably to your ministry? Are people being drawn closer to Christ by your form of ministry? It is a very good idea to ask honest, unbiased Christians to evaluate your effectiveness.
